Did you know that local governments can create Mission Ready Packages? Teams that have been approved by the state emergency management agency may deploy under EMAC to help in recovery operations to assist with restoration efforts as the result of a disaster.

A local government's recovery assistance package may have a mission of

  • Communications restoration
  • Finance restoration/FEMA reimbursement
  • Recovery coordination
  • Building and damage assessments
  • Utility restoration efforts

MRPs should be built in coordination with your home state emergency management agency (EMA).  Do not build an MRP unless your state EMA has authorized your resource as a deployable asset.

  • Should a public information officer attach themselves to an incident management team for an EMAC deployment? +

    The purpose of an incident management team (IMT) is to support a state or local government that needs advice or recommendations on how to establish its ability to operate. A public information officer (PIO) may or may not be needed in that respect. IMTs are typically requested when there is major devastation in an area. PIOs need to type their resources and create Mission Ready Packages so that when their capabilities are needed, they may be easily recognized for their own abilities and skills and used appropriately.
  • In the state emergency management agency, how is a PIO request generated? +

    Typically, if your state needs public information officer (PIO) assistance in a disaster, you would go to Operations personnel within the state emergency management agency.

    They may look in state for resources, but they should also be aware of EMAC as an option. Such questions should be discussed between your office and EMAC personnel in your state now to determine the answer to this question.
